What happens to your Facebook account when you pass away?

26 Apr What happens to your Facebook account when you pass away?

Now that Facebook is so prevalent, the question presents: what happens to my social media when I pass away? The answer is, it depends on the platform.

For example, Facebook’s requirements for deactivation include completing a form which you can find here.  Facebook also allows the person’s page to be changed into a memorial page if requested by an immediate family member.

Facebook has an estate planning tool as well.  Specifically, it allows you to designate a “legacy contact.”  You can find instructions on how to designate your contact here. In the event of your passing, this person can post to your page and accept friend requests.

Our firm offers comprehensive estate planning services.  Contact us today for a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. We love answering questions
